GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's soccer team closed out the 2016 regular season Sunday with a 4-2 victory over Huntingdon College.
The Pride (11-5-0, 8-2-0 USA South) wasted no time finding the back of the net as
Carlos Barragan scored the game's first goal in the ninth minute on a penalty kick.
Just 11 minutes later, Barragan slotted a ball to the center of the 18-yard box, where
Jared Heller blasted a shot past the Hawks keeper, giving the Pride a 2-0 halftime lead.
Greensboro struck again in the 73
rd minute when
Aameen Goyal found the net off an assist by
Mike Tzavlas.
Following the Hawks' first goal of the game,
Nate Gage took a feed from
Cameron Horton and beat the Huntingdon keeper once again to regain the three-goal lead.
Huntingdon would strike one more time, but Greensboro held on for the two-goal victory.
"It was good to end the regular season with a home victory," Head Coach
Tony Falvino said. "We are looking forward to next Saturday and the first round of the USA South Tournament."
Greensboro outshot the Hawks 19-3. Barragan had a team-high four shots on goal, while Goyal tallied three. Jamie Payamps picked up the win in goal for the Pride, while Eathan Small took the loss despite making seven saves.
The Pride men's soccer team will return to action next week in the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament. For more information on Greensboro College men's soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
