GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's soccer team defeated No. 6-seed Covenant College Saturday, advancing to the USA South Athletic Conference Semi-Finals, 3-0.
After a fairly evenly played scoreless first half, Greensboro (12-5) struck for its first goal of the game in the 56th minute when
Carlos Barragan took a through-ball played by
Gerardo Peraza and chipped the oncoming Scots keeper to give the Pride the lead.
The Pride continued the pressure, scoring again in the 60
th minute.
Mike Tzavlas scored on a cross from
Jared Heller to extend the Pride's lead.
The game's final goal came when
Miguel Parra played in a corner-kick, found the head of
Drew Clukey, who headed the ball back in front of goal for fellow center back
Cole Watkins to finish.
Jaime Payamps collected another clean sheet win in goal for the Pride, making two saves. Jonathan Crossman ended up taking the loss in net for the Scots, despite making four saves.
"We are very happy with a good team performance today," Head Coach
Tony Falvino said, "Felt like we were able to create chances and capitalize. The solid defensive effort from everyone involved set the foundation for us to play well and get a good result."
