Women’s Soccer Battles Monarchs to 3-3 Draw

FAYETVILLE, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's soccer team battled to a draw against Methodist University on Sunday, 3-3.

The Pride (7-3-1, 3-3-1 USA South) got on the board first when Caitlyn Cook scored on a cross from Lauren Greeson on the right side.

The Monarchs (4-5-1, 4-2-1 USA South) then tied the game up in the 17th minute, but Greensboro regained the lead in the 25th minute. This time it was Greeson scoring a goal off of a Cook trough-ball.

The Pride maintained its one-goal advantage until the 73rd minute when Methodist found the back of the net again.

The Pride once again regained the lead on Cook's second goal of the afternoon, but Methodist sent the game into overtime with a goal in the 87th minute.

The game would then go on to end in a draw as neither team could strike one last time to break the deadlock.

Brittany Morrison ended the game with eight saves and Greeson led the team in shots with three.

"I'm extremely proud of my girls today," Head Coach Gus Mota said. "We were never behind in the score sheet today, and we had plenty of chances to finish."

"It is not the result we wanted but we'll take a point on the road. We are looking forward to making more adjustments this week in practice."

The Pride are back in action when they host Mary Baldwin College on Saturday at 2 p.m.  For more information on Greensboro College women's soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com
