Danville, VA — Greensboro College Volleyball (3-1) defeated Averett (0-3) 3-1 on Saturday, taking the match 25-15, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21. Greensboro finished with 46 kills to Averett's 39 and totaled 15 service aces in the win.
Greensboro won the opening set 25-15, recording 9 kills and 7 service aces while Averett had 5 kills and 2 aces.
Emory Johnson served a seven-point run from a 13-11 deficit to an 18-13 lead, contributing 4 aces during that stretch, and
Morgan Mayfield added 3 aces for Greensboro.
Greensboro took the second set 25-23, finishing it on
Kayla Yonker's kill from
Payton Wright. Greensboro held a 12-9 edge in kills, with Yonker recording three, while Averett kept the set tight with four service aces to Greensboro's three.
Greensboro had 11 kills and three service aces in the third set, with
Skylar Rokov recording three kills and Yonker adding two. Averett held a 14-11 kill edge and recorded four blocks to Greensboro's one, then scored the next four points after Yonker's kill tied the set at 13-13 on the way to a 25-20 set.
Greensboro closed the fourth set 25-21, finishing with 14 kills and two service aces.
Larkin Baxley led Greensboro with 4 kills in the set, while
Abigail Leo, Yonker and Wright added three apiece; Averett countered with 11 kills and 3 service aces.
Mayfield led Greensboro with 7 service aces and 16 digs. Baxley finished with a team-high 9 kills on a .320 hitting percentage, added 10 assists and recorded 4 block assists. Johnson tallied 5 service aces and 6 assists.
Madison Bozarth posted a team-high 11 assists, 5 digs and 1 service ace.
