SALEM, VA. — Greensboro College volleyball (7-1) swept Hollins (1-6) 3-0 on Saturday, winning 25-7, 25-12, 25-17 at Cregger Center. Greensboro closed the third set with an 8-0 run after the score was tied at 17.
After Hollins closed within 4-3, a service error returned the serve to Greensboro, and
Madison Bozarth served six straight points with three aces while
Dilynn Norris and
Sydney Beck added kills to make it 11-3. Greensboro kept adding separation through the middle of the set, with
Lily Burson serving back-to-back aces for 15-4 and
Morgan Mayfield later adding two aces before Norris' kill pushed the lead to 19-5. Hollins got two points back to reach 19-7, but Greensboro closed the set with six straight points, including two more Burson aces, an
Abigail Leo kill, Leo-
Kinlin Hulin block and an
Emory Johnson ace for a 25-7 finish.
Greensboro built a 7-0 lead in the second set, starting with a Beck kill before
Charlotte Michaels served six straight points, including three aces and a block by
Payton Bell and
Enjoli Allen. Hollins got back to 8-4, but Greensboro pushed the margin to 16-6 behind kills from Norris and
Kayla Yonker and a service ace by Johnson. Hollins scored three straight points to make it 16-9, then later reached 18-11 before Greensboro won seven of the final eight rallies, with Leo, Norris and Yonker adding kills. Burson served the final two points, and Greensboro closed the set on a Hollins attack error for a 25-12 win.
Hollins built an early 5-1 lead behind Norah Madrey's service run, which included an ace and points involving Aliyah Lightsey and Annabelle Kemper. Greensboro worked back from 9-7 as Johnson served an ace, Leo and Yonker combined on a block, and Leo added a kill before Johnson's kill put Greensboro ahead 12-10. Hollins later erased a 15-12 Greensboro lead and tied the set at 17-17 on a Laken Tingler service ace. Allen's kill put Greensboro back in front, and Beck served the final seven points with two aces as Greensboro closed the set on an 8-0 run to win 25-17.
Greensboro totaled 23 service aces, surpassing its season average of 10.43 for the game.
