SALEM, VA. — Greensboro College volleyball (5-1) defeated Randolph College (5-1) 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) on Friday. Greensboro hit .242 with 35 kills and 11 aces while holding Randolph to a .045 hitting percentage.
Greensboro finished the first set with four straight points on
Lily Burson's serve, including two aces and
Payton Bell's set-ending kill from
Emory Johnson, to win 25-13. Earlier, Greensboro moved from 5-4 to 9-4 while
Madison Bozarth served, with
Dilynn Norris and
Payton Shiflet adding kills during that stretch.
The Pride closed the second set by scoring the final six points after Randolph got within 19-16, finishing off a 25-16 set win. Norris,
Sydney Beck,
Morgan Mayfield and
Kinlin Hulin each had kills in that closing stretch, and
Alison Gallo and Hulin combined on a block to bring Greensboro to set point. Earlier, Greensboro answered an early 4-3 deficit by moving in front 8-5 behind points that included an
Enjoli Allen block, a Beck kill and a Norris kill.
Greensboro built an 8-2 lead in the third set, getting two Shiflet kills from Johnson and an early block by Shiflet and
Abigail Leo. Randolph closed portions of the gap, but Greensboro kept answering, including
Skylar Rokov kills from Johnson at 16-9 and 17-12 and a
Grace Young ace that made it 18-12. Leo finished the set with a kill from Bozarth for a 25-19 Greensboro win.
Shiflet led Greensboro with nine kills, hit .320 and added two service aces, six digs and one block assist. Young recorded five service aces and seven digs. Mayfield finished with 18 digs and added four assists. Leo tallied five kills on a .571 hitting percentage and added four block assists.
