Lynchburg, VA - Greensboro College Baseball (21-14, 13-5) earned a big conference series win over Southern Virginia (11-24, 8-9) with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday.
Game One:
The Pride jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first two innings in game one.
Trevor Testerman hit an RBI triple and later scored in the first, while
Destin Matthews and
Jacob Severson had RBI hits in the second.
After the Knights scored once in the fourth, three more Greensboro runs crossed the plate in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-1. Two more runs scored in the eighth for the Pride as they continued to pour on the runs.Â
The Knights would score three times in the bottom of the eighth, but
Parker Broadus would complete the 3.0 inning save to secure the win.
Isaiah Ralls got the win on the mound, going 6.0 innings with four strikeouts. Severson, Matthews, and
Evan Sykes had two hits each at the plate.
Game Two:
It was a back-and-forth affair in game two, but the Pride would earn a 17-11 win. With the game tied 4-4,
Trevor Testerman hit his 16th homer of the season in the fourth inning to put Greensboro ahead 6-4. Up 7-4, the Pride would relinquish the lead in the fifth after three Knights runs scored.Â
The game was tied 10-10 entering the ninth, but the Pride offense would score seven runs in the final frame to go ahead 17-10. SVU would score once in the bottom half, but
Grayson Curtis would shut the door and earn his second win of the season.
Testerman went 5-6 with five RBI and three runs scored.
Jacob Severson would go 3-6 with four runs scored and two RBI.
Carson Herod also had a big game going 3-6.
Dawson Shelton drove in three runs in the third inning on a bases-clearing double.
Notes:
- Testerman leads the USA South with 16 home runs.
- Greensboro has won five of their last seven games against SVU.
