GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College Baseball (12-11, 4-3) fell to William Peace (9-14, 3-4) 11–10 in a USA South Conference game Thursday afternoon at Ted Leonard Park.
Greensboro came out swinging in the second inning, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring five runs to take a 5–1 lead. Tyler Alverio opened the scoring, and RBI's from Jacob Severson, Evan Sykes, Trevor Testerman and Alex Vazquez capped the big frame.
Greensboro continued to apply pressure in the middle innings. The Pride added a run in the third and two more in the fourth to take an 8-2 lead.
William Peace gradually worked back into contention, setting the stage for a back-and-forth finish. Greensboro answered again in the sixth inning, but the Pacers continued to claw back in the game and would take the lead in the 9th.
However, Greensboro forced extra innings by scoring in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI hit from Chase McInerney to tie the game 10–10.
In the 10th inning, the Pacers pushed across the eventual winning run. Greensboro put the tying run aboard in the bottom half but was unable to bring him home, ending the contest with the potential game-tying run on second base.
Offensively, Greensboro recorded 10 runs on 11 hits and drew 10 walks. Chase McInerney led the Pride at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Severson finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base, while Alverio added two hits and two RBIs. Vazquez drove in a pair of runs and also reached base multiple times via walk.
On the mound, Greensboro used four pitchers with Carter Malartsik getting the start and Michael Richards, Parker Broadus and Grayson Curtis providing relief. Defensive miscues proved costly, as several William Peace runs were unearned.
