Misenheimer, NC - The Greensboro College Men's Lacrosse team (8-2, 2-1) went on the road against Pfeiffer University (9-1, 3-0), on Saturday, ultimately falling by a score of 18-9 in a USA South Conference matchup.
The game started evenly, with both teams trading goals in the first quarter, which ended tied 3-3. However, Pfeiffer pulled away in the second period, outscoring Greensboro 5-3 to take an 8-6 lead into halftime.
Pfeiffer continued to build momentum in the second half, capitalizing on their offensive opportunities. The Falcons scored five goals in both the third and fourth quarters, while Greensboro managed just one goal in the third and two in the final period. Pfeiffer's efficiency on the power play proved decisive, as they converted six man-up opportunities compared to Greensboro's single power play goal.
Despite the loss, several Greensboro players delivered strong performances.
Alex Mattoon led the way with 2 goals and 2 assists, while
Justin Barry had 1 goal and 2 assists.
Alex Speckin and Riley Taff each added 2 goals. In goal,
Braeden Mitchell made 17 saves on 53 shots faced.
Pfeiffer held the edge in most statistical categories, out-shooting Greensboro 53-42 and winning the faceoff battle 18-11. Greensboro picked up 32 ground balls and had 11 caused turnovers, but were hampered by 9 penalties, which gave Pfeiffer multiple man-up opportunities.
