Asheboro, NC - Greensboro College Baseball (10-7, 2-0) came away with two conference wins in their USA South Conference opening series against NC Wesleyan, winning game one 21-14 and game two 3-2.
Game One
Game one was a wild one as Greensboro scored the 6th most runs in program history in a single game. It didn't come easy, however, as NC Wesleyan jumped out to a 7-1 lead. Greensboro's offense came alive in the fourth, scoring 4 runs to trim the score to 7-5.
The Bishops pulled away again with 7 runs in the next two innings to go ahead 14-5. In the bottom of the sixth, the Greensboro bats busted out for 9 runs to tie the game 14-14. They would then score 7 runs in the seventh inning, and the bullpen shut down the Bishops the rest of the way.
Evan Sykes had 3 hits and 2 home runs in this one to go along with 5 RBI and 3 walks.
Jacob Severson,
Trevor Testerman,
Alex Vazquez,
Luke Neubauer, and
Austen Townsend all had 2 hits, while Braden Sands and
Jaycob Caseres had 3. The team totaled 20 hits and 10 walks with only 3 strikeouts.Â
Austin Federspiel got the win out of the bullpen, going 3.0 innings with 1 strikeout.
Game Two
It was a pitchers' dual in game two as Greensboro held on to win 3-2.
Isaiah Ralls was brilliant, going 8.0 innings and striking out 6.
Parker Broadus earned his second career save.Â
NC Wesleyan got on the board first in the first inning, but Greensboro scored twice in the second to go up 2-1. They then went up 3-1 with a run in the fourth. Pitching and defense took over from there as Greensboro earned the doubleheader sweep.
Sykes collected 3 more hits, and is now sixth all-time in program history with 165 career hits and is tied with Kevin Jackson for the most runs scored in program history with 146.
Brayden Sands had 3 hits in game two including a double, while
Luke Neubauer had all 3 RBI.
