Greensboro, NC - It was a big night for the freshman duo of
Kensly Stewart and
Jayda Hairston as they combined for 33 points in a 78-73 win over Methodist on Monday night.
The game was close the entire way, as neither team could pull away from the other. Greensboro led 21-18 after the first period, and then took a 39-35 advantage at the half.
The second half saw Methodist cut the Pride lead and eventually take control in the fourth quarter. With 6:05Â remaining, the Monarchs took a 69-65 advantage. However, the Greensboro defense stepped up and came through with key turnovers to regain the lead again.
Up by 3 with less than 15 seconds remaining,
Taya Simpkins scored a fast break layup to seal the game. She would finish with 10 points on the night.
For the Pride, Stewart scored a team high 18 points while Hairston scored 15.
Ary Ingram dropped 14 points with 6 rebounds.
Notes:
- Greensboro moves closer to securing a spot in the USA South Tournament with a four game lead over ninth place Meredith.
- The team hit 11 three-pointers on the night, with Hairston leading the squad with 4.
