Rocky Mount, NC - The Greensboro Baseball team will be hosting the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament next week as they swept NC Wesleyan in a three game series to secure the #2 seed in the tournament. On Saturday the Pride swept their doubleheader against the Bishops to finish the regular season.
Game One: Greensboro 19, NC Wesleyan 7
Walks were the story in game one as the Greensboro offense earned 17 of them in game one on Saturday. After being down 5-0, the Pride clawed their way back into the game, and eventually had an 11 run seventh inning to take the lead. They then scored 6 more times in the eighth.
JA'Heim Brown earned his first win in a Pride uniform out of the bullpen, going 2.0 innings and giving up no runs. At the plate,
Mike Rinaldi had 3 hits to go along with his 6th homer of the season.
Evan Sykes had 5 RBI day, while
Michael Schroer had a 3 RBI afternoon.
Game Two: Greensboro 11, NC Wesleyan 10
The final game of the series was a closer one, a game in which Greensboro again came from behind to get the win. Down 5-2, the Pride scored 3 runs to tie the game in the fourth inning. Down 7-5, Greensboro scored 2 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth to take a 9-7 advantage.
Up 10-7, the Bishops tied the game with a 3 run seventh inning to tie things at 10-10. Greensboro then scored the winning run in the eighth on a
Cameron Barefoot RBI single.
Garrett Brust would come in on the mound with runners at the corners and no out in the bottom of the 9th, but slammed the door shut without any Bishops base runners scoring to complete the sweep.Â
Greensboro will host the first round of the conference tournament beginning on Thursday, with game times and opponents TBD.
