Asheboro, NC - Greensboro Baseball played against #6 seed Pfeiffer on Thursday on the first day of the USA South Conference Tournament and defeated the Falcons 14-12.
The Pride got out to an 11-0 lead after three innings, including a seven-run first inning. The inning included a
Jake Duffy two-run homer to cap off the seven-run frame.
However the Falcons didn't give up, and they would claw their way back in the game with 3 runs in the fourth and 4 runs in the fifth. Later, with the score 12-8, Pfeiffer scored 4 runs in the eighth inning to tie the game 12-12.
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth and the game still tied 12-12,
Jaycob Caseres pinch-hit and ripped an RBI double to left field to give Greensboro the lead again. Then, Duffy singled home
Luke Rossi for a big insurance run.
Hunter Anderson closed the game out in the ninth to give Greensboro a big win in the first game of the conference tournament. The Pride will now play Brevard, who also beat Pfeiffer on Thursday, twice on Friday afternoon.
Evan Sykes had a four-hit game, including a two-run shot for his 9th home run of the season. Sykes drove in 4 runs on the night.

Mike Rinaldi had 3 hits each, while
Jake Duffy had 3 hits and 3 RBI.
Greensboro will now play a best two out of three against Brevard to see who advances to the championship round next weekend. The teams will play two games on Friday beginning at 1:00 pm, with a potential if-necessary game on Saturday.
