Baseball Splits Doubleheader, Win Series Against SVU

Greensboro, NC - Greensboro Baseball hosted senior day on Saturday and split a doubleheader with Southern Virginia. With the game one win, Greensboro earned the series win 2-1.

Game One: Greensboro 10, SVU 3

Senior pitcher Nick Stegura got the start in game one and pitched a gem, going 6.2 innings while giving up six hits and striking out seven hitters. The Pride offense had eighteen hits on the game, including five extra-base hits.

Brody Gardner had a big day at the plate going 4-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Chris Le and Dominic Scavine each had three hits. Greensboro scored three runs in the second and third innings, and later scored three more in the eighth to extend their lead.

Evan Sykes homered for the second game in a row, putting him just one home run shy of tying the program record for home runs in a career.

Game Two: SVU 13, Greensboro 9

The Knights came back in game two and earned the win in the final game of the series. SVU had thirteen hits, including a grand slam in the second inning.

The Knights scored five runs in the first two innings to get out to a 5-2 lead. After the Pride got the score to 5-4, SVU's offense struck again for a combined seven runs in the fifth and sixth frames to pull away.

For Greensboro, Louis Berini had a four hit game with three RBI. Chris Le had a three hit game while Jake Duffy went 2-4.

The Pride will play their final regular season series of the year against NC Wesleyan next weekend, with game one being on Friday at 6:00 pm.
