Greensboro, NC - It was an exciting start to the Triad Invitational on Friday as the Greensboro baseball team walked-off Adrian College to earn their seventh win of the season.
The Bulldogs got out to the early lead with a three run second inning, and then tacked on a fourth run in the third. Greensboro cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third after
Chris Le scored on an error and
Brody Gardner tripled home
Louis Berini.Â
After three more Adrian runs scored in the top of the fifth, the Pride scored four of their own in the bottom half of the frame to make the score 7-6. Greensboro would later tie the game 8-8 in the seventh inning when Gardner hit his first homer of the season and
Rush Bowman had an RBI groundout.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Pride had the bases loaded and one out when Bowman hit a dribbler towards third, and the throw home couldn't beat Gardner coming to the plate and Greensboro earned the walk-off victory.
Ian Bast got the start on the mound for the Pride and went five innings, giving up seven runs and striking out three.
Nick Stegura and
Nick Neubauer pitched strong out of the bullpen, and Neubauer earned his first career win.
Offensively, Greensboro had thirteen hits, five of those being for extra bases.
Brody Gardner finished a single shy of the cycle, while
Dominic Scavone also had a three hit day.
The Pride will host Maryville in game two of the Triad Invite on Saturday at 1:30 pm at Truist Point.
