Greensboro, NC - It was the
Mike Rinaldi show at Ted Leonard Park on Saturday as the junior hit three home runs in two games to help Greensboro complete a three game sweep of William Peace.
Game One: Greensboro 14, WPU 9
The Pride offense exploded for ten runs in the first two innings in game one. It was a nine run second that was the story, as
Mike Rinaldi hit two home runs in the inning, including a grand slam. Rinaldi had six RBI to go along with his two home runs.
The Pacers tried to claw their way back into the game, scoring two in the third and one in the fourth. Greensboro added on to the lead with two in the fifth and one in the sixth to keep their comfortable lead. The Pacers scored three in the eighth to creep back into the game at 13-9, but an insurance run in the bottom of the inning gave
Nick Stegura another run to work with in the ninth as he nailed down his first save.
Michael Richards got the start on the mound and got the win to go to 5-1. He went 5.2 innings with four walks and two strikeouts. Stegura went 3.1 innings to cover the rest of the game.
Four Pride hitters had two hits, including Rinaldi,
Chris Le,
Rush Bowman, and
Evan Sykes. Le,
Dominic Scavone, and
Jake Duffy each had a double, while Scavone and Duffy also had sac fly's. Greensboro stole six bases, with
Louis Berini having three of them.Â
Game Two: Greensboro 15, WPU 5
It was a blowout in game two as Greensboro completed the sweep, winning 15-5. The Pride scored five first inning runs to take a 5-0 advantage early. They scored four in the third and two in the fourth to take a commanding 11-1 lead in the middle innings.
Freshman lefty
Zack Bird threw a solid six innings to get his first career win on the mound. Bird gave up five hits, two runs, and struck out six.Â
At the plate,
Evan Sykes hit his fourth home run of the season and sixteenth of his career. He is now three home runs away from tying the program record for career home runs.
Mike Rinaldi hit his third home run of the day in game two with three RBI.
Dominic Scavone,
Rush Bowman, and
Louis Berini had two hits each, and
Chris Le went 3-4 with two RBI. Le fell a home run short of hitting for the cycle.
Greensboro will play Roanoke College on Tuesday at Ted Leonard Park. First pitch is set for 4:00 pm.
