Greensboro, NC - Greensboro softball scored a combined twenty-eight runs in a two game sweep of Carolina University on Saturday in their last non-conference series of the regular season.
Game One: Greensboro 12, Carolina University 2
It was a quick one hour and fifteen minute contest in game one as the Pride run-ruled the Bruins 12-2.
Anna Frazier got the win in the circle, pitching four of the five innings. She gave up three hits, one run, and struck out three. She improved her record to 5-2.
Greensboro got two runs in the first inning on a Frazier home run and an
Olivia Hyatt RBI groundout. For Frazier, it was her first home run of the season and third of her career in a Pride uniform. In the second,
Ivy Ray tripled home three runs to extend the lead to 5-0.
Ray knocked in another run in the fourth on an RBI single. Later in the inning,
Katherine Connell brought home two more runs on an RBI single.
Jordyn Tong then hit a deep home run over the left field wall for her first collegiate home run.
Madison Guard closed the door in the circle to secure the game one win. The team totaled ten hits, three triples, and two stolen bases.Â
Game Two: Greensboro 16, Carolina University 8
Greensboro run-ruled the Bruins again in game two by the final of 16-8. The Pride fell behind 5-0 in the second inning, but scored five runs to tie the game in the bottom of the second.
Carolina University scored to make it 6-5 in the third, but Greensboro scored three more runs in the bottom half to take an 8-6 advantage. The inning included a
Jordyn Tong two-RBI single.
The offense scored four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to nail down their fifteenth win of the season.
Ivy Ray went 3-3 with 1 RBI and a triple. She also had a stolen base, which puts her one stolen base away from being tied for second all-time in program history.
Raven Taylor,
Jillian Vitamanti, and
Alexis Lynch all had two hits each, while
Abbey Drake had a two-RBI day. As a team, the Pride had nine stolen bases.Â
Raina Hampel came out of the bullpen to get the win, going three innings and striking out four. Her record is now 6-2 on the year.
Greensboro begins USA South play on Wednesday when they host Mary Baldwin, with game one beginning at 2:00 pm.
