Demorest, GA - A strong start on the mound and a three hit game from
Brody Gardner led Greensboro baseball to a 9-6 win over Piedmont on Sunday afternoon.
Faudoa, a junior from Houston, Texas, has gotten off to a great start in his first season with the Pride. He is now 3-0 with a 3.92 ERA in 20.2 innings. On Sunday, Faudoa went 6.2 innings, giving up four runs with six strikeouts.
The Pride put up three runs in the second inning to go up 3-0 after a
Myles Vacharasin sac fly, a
Will Hovey RBI groundout, and a
Louis Berini RBI single. Piedmont then scored one run in the bottom half of the frame to make the score 3-1.
Greensboro later scored six straight runs, three each in the fifth and sixth innings, to take a 9-1 lead. Piedmont would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh after Faudoa exited the game, and made the score 9-5.
They then scored a run in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run on base, but
Garrett Brust entered with two outs and got the final out to earn the save.Â
At the plate, the Pride offense totaled thirteen hits on the afternoon. Gardner had three hits while Berini,
Dominic Scavone,
Rush Bowman, and
Alex Vazquez all had two hits each. Gardner and Vazquez each had a double. Bowman and Scavone had a stolen base each.
Greensboro will play again on March 7th when they host Adrian College as part of the Triad Invite at Truist Point in High Point.Â
