Ian Bast threw seven shutout innings as Greensboro baseball defeated Mary Baldwin 10-1 on Friday in their first USA South game of the season.
Bast collected seven strikeouts on the afternoon and allowed just four hits. The offense gave him plenty of run support for his second win of the season.
Ahead 2-0, Greensboro scored four runs in the fifth inning to open the game up. Two runs would score on a key error by Mary Baldwin pitcher Nick Faulkenberry followed by a
Myles Vacharasin sac bunt RBI that scored
Kai Hayen.
In the sixth, Hayen would hit a two-run bomb to left field for his second homer of the season to extend the lead to 10-0. In total, the Pride had sixteen hits on the day.
Rush Bowman had a breakout game going 4-4 with a double and an RBI.
Chris Le had three hits, while
Brody Gardner,
Dominic Scavone, and Hayen all had two hits each.
Dolan Ramsey and
Brett Sutterby each pitched one inning out of the bullpen.
Greensboro will host Mary Baldwin for a doubleheader on Saturday in High Point beginning at 1:00 pm.
