Danville, VA - Greensboro softball took on former USA South rival Averett on Wednesday for a doubleheader. The Pride took game one 4-3 while Averett took game two 5-4.
Game One: Greensboro 4, Averett 3
The Pride scored all four of their runs in the first inning in game one, and that would be enough for starter
Raina Hampel. Hampel pitched six innings and gave up three runs and struck out one for her first win of the season.
Anna Frazier came in to get the save, the second of her collegiate career.
Frazier also knocked in the first run of the game for Greensboro on an RBI single to score
Ivy Ray. Later in the first inning,
Olivia Hyatt scored on an RBI hit by
Katherine Connell and Frazier scored on an error later in the same play. The fourth run came via a
Jordyn Tong RBI single.
The offense totaled four hits on the afternoon, with Tong having two of them.
Game Two: Averett 5, Greensboro 4
The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning in game two, but the Pride battled back. Down 3-0 in the fourth inning, Greensboro got on the board after an RBI single by
Katie Allison that scored
Raven Taylor.Â
Olivia Hyatt later made the score 3-2 in the sixth inning after an RBI single. In the top of the seventh, Greensboro took the lead after scoring two runs thanks to an RBI single by
Jordyn Tong and a double steal that scored
Anna Frazier.Â
Averett, down 4-3, came back in the home half of the seventh as they quickly scored the tying run and shortly after walked-off the game on an RBI single by Brianna Brooks.Â
In the circle, Frazier started and went two innings.
Madison Guard pitched a solid four innings out of the bullpen, giving up no runs and striking out two.
Ella Ebert took the loss.
On the offensive side, the Pride had four stolen bases on the game.
Olivia Hyatt had a two hit game, as did
Katie Allison. Hyatt, Tong, and Allison all drove in one run each.
Greensboro will play again on Saturday when they travel to Randolph College for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
