Ettrick, VA - A fifteen goal outburst helped the Greensboro men's lacrosse team earn their second win of the season, as they defeated NCAA Division II opponent Virginia State, 15-10.
The first quarter saw both teams score three goals each. For the Pride,
Alex Mattoon scored the first goal followed by goals from
DiMaggio Wilson and
Justin Barry.Â
Greensboro put up four more goals in the second quarter to take a 7-4 lead going into halftime.
Alex Speckin and three more goals by Barry helped Greensboro get out to the 7-4 advantage.
The Pride then opened up quarter number three with three goals to go up 10-4. Mattoon,
Ben Little, and Barry all scored in the 3-0 run. After three goals by VSU, Mattoon and Wilson scored a goal each to go up 12-7.Â
Once again VSU scored two goals and cut the lead to 12-9, but Greensboro came right back with two goals of their own to essentially put the game away.
Justin Barry scored five goals on the day, which ties a career high he set last season.Â
Alex Mattoon scored four goals on the night, while
DiMaggio Wilson scored two.
Colin Byrne,
Ben Little,
Alex Speckin, and
Connor Ferreria all scored one goal each. Byrne would also have three caused turnovers and
Layne Clark had two.
Quinton Solomon had seven ground balls while winning 16 of 28 face offs.
Greensboro will play again on Saturday when they travel to Marymount University for an 11:00 am matchup.
