Greensboro, NC - Greensboro baseball was handed their first loss of the season, dropping a 13-5 decision to the Hampden-Sydney Tigers on Tuesday night.
Louis Berini (3-4) and
Brody Gardner (2-4, 2 RBI) led the offensive attack for the Pride, and it was Gardner's 2-run double in the first inning that put Greensboro ahead 2-1.
Evan Sykes would make it 3-1 moments later when his sacrifice fly scored Gardner. The Tigers tied the game in the top of the second on a run scoring single and a wild pitch that brought home a run. They added two runs in both the third and fourth frames to build a 7-3 lead and chase Greensboro starter
Zack Bird (L, 0-1).
Four more Hampden-Sydney (1-0) runs scored in the fifth before
Kai Hayen's sacrifice fly finally put the Pride back on the board. The Pride and the Tigers would trade single runs the rest of the way, with Greensboro's final score coming on a
Dominic Scavone double, driving in his ninth run of the season in just four games.
For the Pride (3-1), they were done in offensively by 11 strikeouts, while seven pitchers combined to walk 11 and hit 3.
Greensboro returns to action this weekend with a Saturday doubleheader against Averett at McCrary Park in Asheboro.
