Pride Fall to Guilford 12-6 in Season Opener; Barry Scores Hat Trick

Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro men's lacrosse season opened up on Wednesday afternoon on Pride Field as they took on cross-town rival Guilford College. The Quakers came out on top 12-6 after an impressive second half that saw them give up just one goal to the Pride in the final two quarters.

Guilford got out to an early 5-0 lead after the first quarter as five different Quakers scored a goal. Greensboro fought back in the second period, scoring five goals themselves, with two of those coming from Justin Barry. Guilford scored two goals in the quarter and held a 7-5 lead going into halftime.

Guilford scored three goals in the third quarter to Greensboro's one as they pulled out to a 10-6 advantage. Unfortunately for the Pride, one third quarter goal by Barry was all they could get as Guilford scored two more fourth quarter goals to earn their first win of the season.

Outside of Barry's three goal performance, Greensboro got two goals from Chas Gilroy and one goal from DiMaggio Wilson. Alex Mattoon had two assists on the night. Barry and Colin Byrne led the Pride in ground balls with four each, while Byrne and Corrie Miller has two caused turnovers each.

Greensboro will be back at home this Saturday when they host Oglethorpe on Pride Field at 12:00 pm.
