Rocky Mount, NC - It was a huge afternoon for freshman quarterback
Cameron Turner as he led the Greensboro College Football Team (2-7, 1-5) to their first conference win of the season over NC Wesleyan (4-5, 2-4) 39-28.
Turner would combine for 406 yards and 5 touchdowns in just his third start of his career. He threw for 296 yards and 4 touchdown passes while also rushing for 110 yards with a rushing score.Â
The first passing touchdown went to
KJ Brown early in the first quarter on a 62-yard bomb to open the scoring. With Greensboro down 14-6 in the third quarter, Turner sparked a monstrous second half with a 30-yard strike to
Shamar Privette to make the score 14-13.
Down 21-13, Turner again found Privette for a touchdown pass to shrink the deficit to 21-19. It was all Pride after this, as Turner found Brown again for a 41-yard touchdown pass, and later Turner ran one in from 5-yards out.Â
After an NC Wesleyan score put the Greensboro lead at 32-29 late in the fourth quarter, the Bishops had the ball for one final drive. However, senior
Will Pailthorpe ended the game in style with a pick-six as time expired and sealed the win for Greensboro.
For the Pride, freshman
Camron Torrence-Kelly rushed for 105 yards for his first 100-yard rushing game of his career.
KJ Brown would finish with 5 receptions for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns, while
Shamar Privette also had two touchdown receptions and 5 catches.
Defensively, Greensboro totaled 4 sacks, a forced fumble, and the interception by Pailthorpe They also had 4 pass breakups.
Jadon Barnes led the team with 5 tackles while
Jay Law and
Cedrick Crenshaw Jr. had 4.Â
Greensboro will finish their season next Saturday with senior day against Methodist at Pride Field. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
