Winston-Salem, NC - Greensboro College Volleyball (22-2, 15-0) extended their win streak to 17 games with a win over conference rival Salem (21-6, 11-4) by the score of 3-1 on Tuesday.
Salem took the first set 25-17 after Greensboro made 8 attack errors in the set. Greensboro got out to an early 3-0 advantage but the Spirits quickly came back to tie the set 3-3. Salem later took a 9-6 lead, and then took as big as an 18-10 advantage before Greensboro cut the lead to 19-13. The Spirits would eventually finish out the set and take an early 1-0 match lead.
Greensboro came back in the second set to win 25-22. The Pride had a .302 hitting percentage in the set as well as multiple key kills from
Taylor Cotie and
Payton Shiflet.Â
The third set was a back-and-forth affair that saw Greensboro come from behind for a big set three win, 26-24. Greensboro found themselves down 24-22, but key serves by
Lily Burson and the work of Cotie and Shiflet led a quick comeback, and the Pride were ahead 2-1 in the match.
Set number four was close throughout, but Greensboro maintained control for the majority of the set and closed out the Spirits, 25-19. The win is the 17th in a row for Greensboro and they now sit at 15-0 in conference play. They are currently three games ahead of Southern Virginia, who sits in second place.Â
Payton Shiflet led Greensboro in kills with 20, while
Taylor Cotie had 11.
Jaylyn Templeton had 42 assists on the night and
Morgan Mayfield had 24 digs.
Grace Young had 5 service aces while Shiflet had 3. Cotie also came through with 4 blocks.
Next up for Greensboro is a tri-match against Meredith and Averett on Saturday. It will also be senior day, with the senior day ceremony beginning before the 12:00 pm game against Meredith.
