Fayetteville, NC - Greensboro College Volleyball (17-2, 11-0) went on the road and defeated Methodist (10-12, 5-5) 3-1 for their 17th win of the year. The victory extends the team's win streak to 12 games.
It was a tough battle all night for the Pride, as Methodist totaled 58 kills to Greensboro's 48. However, Greensboro gutted out a hard-fought win on the road by taking advantage of key mistakes by the Monarchs in the first, second, and fourth sets.
The first set went Greensboro's way 25-22. Methodist had 6 errors in the set despite 17 kills. Greensboro then took the next set 25-23 after being down 23-21. Greensboro scored 4 straight points to win the set and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
Methodist controlled the third set and took it 25-20. In the fourth set the Monarchs got out to a 5-0 lead and later a 6-2 advantage. Greensboro would battle back into the set and eventually narrowed the Methodist lead to 13-12. The teams went back-and-forth for most of the rest of the set, but the Monarchs again came close to evening the match, as they took a 22-20 lead. However, Greensboro would score 5 of the next 6 points to close out the match.
Payton Shiflet led the team in kills with 24 while
Morgan Mayfield led the team in digs with 25.
Grace Young also had a 15 dig night.
Jaylyn Templeton had 36 assists, while
Karla del Castillo and
Taylor Cotie, combined for 9 blocks.
Greensboro will play a tri-match on Saturday when they host Pfeiffer and Randolph beginning at 12:00 pm.
