Buena Vista, VA - Greensboro women's basketball fell to USA South Conference foe Southern Virginia on Saturday 81-35.
Taya Simpkins led the Pride with 11 points to go with 6 rebounds.
The Knights got out to an early lead and didn't look back in this one. Greensboro found themselves down 23-5 at the end of the first quarter as SVU shot 41% from the floor and hit two three point shots in the period.Â
The Pride could only muster 4 points in the second quarter and would find themselves down 43-9 at the halftime break. Greensboro came out strong in the third period, as they outscored the Knights 18-16. The Pride shot 6-10 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line in a strong offensive quarter.
SVU pulled away again in the fourth to seal their 10th win of the 2024-2025 season. With the loss, Greensboro falls to 1-3 in conference play while the Knights improve to 3-0.
Nakiyah Kelly scored 8 points for the Pride along with pulling down 7 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists. Sophomore
Taya Phelps scored 5 points and had 3 rebounds. Greensboro did get a good performance from their bench, as they scored 14 of the team's points.
The Pride will face off against NC Wesleyan in their next contest on January 7th inside Hanes Gym. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
