Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pruett Scores Career High 39 in Loss to NC Wesleyan

Greensboro, NC - Isaiah Pruett went off on Saturday afternoon as he scored a career high 39 points in a 78-75 loss to conference rival NC Wesleyan. Pruett's 39 points is the second highest Greensboro men's basketball single game performance since 2000, only behind Marcellus Morgan's 46 point performance on February 19th, 2003.

It was a strong effort all around for the Pride despite losing their first conference game of the season. Greensboro got out to a 32-20 lead midway through the first half, but the Bishops went on a 14-0 run to take a 34-32 lead late in the half.

NC Wesleyan was led by point guard Khalid Chavis-Hinds, who scored a team high 22 points on 10-17 shooting. Hinds helped the Bishops extend their lead to eight points later in the second half, as it looked like Wesleyan was about to pull away for good. However, Pruett led Greensboro back and tied the game with a three pointer with 2:18 remaining.

With 1:49 left, a DJ Jackson free throw gave Greensboro a 75-74 advantage. After his free throw, however, the Pride wouldn't be able to score again and the Bishops scored the final four points of the game to take home the win. With the victory, NC Wesleyan secured their first conference win of 2024-2025.

Despite the loss, Pruett was the star in this one. He shot 13-18 from the floor and hit 7 three pointers, which is also a career high. Griffin Powell shot the ball well from long range, going 4-7 and totaling 12 points. Senior forward Grant Thompson scored 11 points and had 5 rebounds.

Greensboro hit a season high 12 threes on the afternoon and shot 55% from the field as a team. They also scored 20 points in the paint and shot 15-20 from the charity stripe.

The Pride will regroup and play again on January 15th when they travel to battle Southern Virginia. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
