Salem, VA - Greensboro volleyball played two matches on Saturday in the Maroon Classic, defeating Ferrum 3-1 while falling to Randolph College 3-2.
Greensboro vs Ferrum:
The Pride got out to a hot start in game one against Ferrum, winning the first set 25-16 and set two 25-14. Ferrum came back in the third set to avoid the sweep, winning 26-24. Greensboro wouldn't allow this one to go to a fifth set, as they won the fourth set 26-24 for their fourth victory of the season.
Krista Brantley had a career high 18 kills on the match and 4 digs.
Payton Wright had 9 kills, while
Kelci Brooks had 7.
Grace Klingensmith had a career high in service aces with 7.
Greensboro vs Randolph:
The Pride's battle with Randolph College went five sets, with the Wildcats winning the match 3-2. Greensboro took set one 25-18, and then Randolph won the second set 26-24. The Wildcats won the third set by the same 26-24 score as they took a 2-1 lead.
The Pride didn't go away easily, as they evened the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set. In the final set, it was a back-and-forth battle to the end, but the Wildcats came out on top 15-13.
During the match,
Taylor Cotie earned her 500th career kill. She totaled 7 kills on the match.
Krista Brantley and
Kelci Brooks had 14 kills each.
Payton Wright had 13 kills and freshman
Larkin Baxley had 10.
Morgan Mayfield had a career high 45 digs on the match, while Brooks had 21.Â
Greensboro will host Guilford College for their first home game of the season on September 11th at 7:00 pm.
