Salem, VA - Greensboro volleyball went 1-1 in two games on day one of the Maroon Classic hosted by Roanoke College. The Pride defeated Hollins University 3-0 while falling to Roanoke 3-0.
Greensboro vs Hollins:
In game one against Hollins, the Pride took home their third win of the 2024 season. They won set one 25-22, then took the second set 25-18. In the final set, Greensboro cruised to a 25-10 victory.
Krisa Brantley and
Karla del Castillo led the way with 7 kills each.
Payton Bell had 5 kills while
Taylor Cotie had 4. del Castillo also had 3 block assists. Defensively,
Morgan Mayfield had 8 digs and Kelsi Brooks had 7.
Jaylyn Templeton had 7 service aces on the match, tying a career high.
Grace Young finished the game with 6 service aces.
Greensboro vs Roanoke:
In game two, Greensboro fought hard but couldn't overcome the Maroons' offense. Roanoke totaled 40 kills on the match and 7 blocks. For the Pride,
Taylor Cotie led the team with 9 kills.
Morgan Mayfield totaled 14 digs whileÂ
Grace Young had 11.
Grace Klingensmith played solid and had 11 assists.
Greensboro will play two more matches on Saturday, with the first match against Ferrum College at 12:00 pm followed by a 4:00 pm contest with Randolph College.
