Greensboro, NC - It was an action packed Saturday on the soccer pitch as the Greensboro women's soccer team scored 5 goals in a 5-1 win over Pfeiffer. The win gives the Pride their first USA South Conference victory of the season.
Greensboro scored 3 goals in the first half to take control of the game. In the 9th minute,
Cassidy Olszewski scored off an assist by
Emily Walsh to make the score 1-0. In the 16th minute,
Shae Brennan put one in the back of the net off another assist by Walsh to go up 2-0.
Just three minutes later,
Amery Skinner scored a spectacular goal off a cross from
Mallory Carter to take a 3-0 lead. Skinner's goal was her 8th of the season.
In the 52nd minute, a handball in the box by Pfeiffer set up a penalty kick goal from senior
Hannah McCarthy. With the score 4-1, Greensboro got their final goal in the 53rd minute when
Amery Skinner scored off an assist by McCarthy. Skinner now has 8 goals on the season.
Head coach
Mike Johnston said after the game, "Really proud of our group for bouncing back after Tuesday. We changed some things lineup wise and having Shae up the field for the initial stanza infused us and allowed us to press high. Creating three goals in the first twenty minutes was fantastic, and all three goals were certainly quality. Everyone contributed tonight and we're certainly thrilled with the result."
Greensboro will travel to Brevard on October 2nd for their next contest. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
