Charlotte, NC - The Greensboro women's soccer team won their third straight game on Saturday by defeating Johnson & Wales by a score of 2-1.
Defense was a big key to victory in this one, as the Wildcats only had 3 shots the entire match. Meanwhile for Greensboro, they got down 1-0 early on, but
Cassidy Olszewski tied the game in the 24th minute on a goal assisted by
Hilary Graley. The goal was Olszewski's third of the season.
Right before the first half ended,
Alex Hyde found the back of the net to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Pride. From there, Greensboro took control of the game until a 66th minute foul in the box by the Pride would threaten Greensboro's lead.
The Wildcats would get a penalty kick opportunity to tie the game, but senior goalkeeper
Lindsay Fox had the play of the match with a key save to keep the score 2-1 in favor of Greensboro. The Pride kept that 2-1 advantage and capped off their third win in a row.
Head coach
Mike Johnston said after the match, "I'm proud of our groups resolve as a unit. Today everyone contributed with the heat, and we had several players step up in different roles. Lindsay (Fox) was solid in net for us, and obviously the PK stop was huge. Johnson & Wales is very well coached and are certainly a tough side to play against. I liked our response in the last three games and we are ready to hit the conference slate."
The Pride begin conference play when they travel to Methodist on September 24th for a 7:00 pm match-up with the Monarchs.
