Winston-Salem, NC - The Greensboro volleyball team played their first USA South Conference game of the season on Thursday night and fell to Salem 3-2.
The Pride got out to a 1-0 lead after winning the first set 25-17. Salem battled back to win the second set 25-23 in a tight battle to the end.Â
The Spirits took control of the match by winning the third set 25-19, but Greensboro came back strong to win the fourth set 25-12.
In the fifth and final set, Salem got momentum back and won the set 15-10. The Pride fall to 0-1 in conference play while the Spirits improve to 1-1.
For Greensboro,
Morgan Mayfield led the team in digs with 32.
Payton Wright had a big 16 kill match, while
Krista Brantley had 14 kills.
Grace Young had 5 service aces on the night, while
Jaylyn Templeton had 29 assists.
The Pride will host a tri-match with USA South conference rivals William Peace and Mary Baldwin on Saturday. The first game against William Peace begins at 12:00 pm.
