Lynchburg, VA - The win streak for Greensboro volleyball has hit three games as the Pride won both games at the Hill City Classic on Saturday. Game one saw Greensboro win an exciting 3-2 match over Lynchburg, while the Pride won 3-0 against LaGrange in their second match of the day.
Greensboro vs Lynchburg:
In a five set classic, Greensboro came out on top 3-2 over Lynchburg. The Hornets took the first set 25-22, but the Pride came back and won set two 25-19.Â
The third set was a back-and-forth battle that saw Lynchburg win 27-25 and take a 2-1 lead in the match. In another close battle, Greensboro came out on top in the fourth set 25-22 to force a deciding fifth set.
The teams traded points throughout the fifth set, and Greensboro took an 11-10 lead as the game wound down. The Pride then pulled out to a 14-11 advantage to get within one point of winning the match. The Hornets got to within one point of Greensboro before a kill by
Kelci Brooks finished off Lynchburg and secured the win.
Brooks and
Krista Brantley led Greensboro with 14 kills each.
Payton Wright had 12 kills, while
Taylor Cotie had 9.
Morgan Mayfield and
Breckyn Bahr had 3 service aces each, while Mayfield had 38 digs.
Greensboro vs LaGrange:
The second game of the day saw the Pride sweep LaGrange 3-0. Greensboro won set one 25-19, then took set two 25-16. In the third set, the Pride cruised to a 25-17 win.
Payton Wright led the team with 12 kills.
Morgan Mayfield led the Pride in digs with 16, while
Grace Young had 8. Young also had 2 service aces.
The Pride begin USA South Conference action on Thursday, September 19th when they travel to Winston-Salem to take on Salem College.Â
