Atlanta, GA - The Greensboro volleyball team won their first two games of the season on Saturday by defeating Piedmont and Huntingdon by the score of 3-1.
Game one vs Piedmont:
The Pride got off to a great start in the first set against Piedmont, winning 25-9. The team totaled 11 kills in the set and had control the entire way. Greensboro took the second set 25-20, and then Piedmont would take the third set 25-16 as they looked to fight back into the match.
Greensboro came back in the fourth set to finish off the Lions 25-20 for their first victory of the year.
Taylor Cotie led the team with 11 kills while
Payton Wright had 10.
Grace Young had 6 aces and
Grace Klingensmith had 19 assists.
Game two vs Huntingdon:
Greensboro would take game two against Huntingdon 3-1, improving to 2-1 on the season. The Pride had control throughout the first set, winning 25-18. The Hawks came back to win set two by the same 25-18 score.
It was a tight battle in the final two sets, but Greensboro would come out on top 25-22 in both the third and fourth sets to win the match.
Payton Wright once again had 10 kills while
Krista Brantley and
Kelci Brooks had 9 each.
Jaylyn Templeton totaled 22 assists.
Greensboro will play in the Maroon Classic next weekend in Salem, VA, with their first game being against Hollins University on Friday at 12:00 pm.
