Box Score Greensboro, NC - It's been a wild two days of softball at the USA South Conference Tournament at Barber Park, as the Greensboro Softball team took down both NC Wesleyan and Meredith on Friday to force a final game to determine who goes to the USA South Championship series next week.
Greensboro fell in their first game on Thursday to Meredith College 4-3 in eight innings. However the Pride defeated Methodist on Thursday night to stave off elimination. Then on Friday, the team played NC Wesleyan in a second elimination game and won 3-0 after a great performance by
Lauren Engel in the circle. Engel went all 7.0 innings and gave up just 5 hits.
Kelsey Craven,
Makyiah Simmons, and
Ivy Ray all had 2 hits each.
In a third elimination game, Greensboro faced off again against Meredith. With the game scoreless in the sixth inning,
Kelsey Craven roped a solo home run to center field to take a 1-0 lead. However the Avenging Angels took the lead with a two out, two RBI double in the top of the seventh.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Greensboro scored the tying run on a bases loaded walk by Simmons. Then with one out,
Madison Dillner scored on a bad throw to third base after a failed squeeze attempt by
Anna Frazier. Dillner came running towards home plate on the squeeze play, but after Frazier missed the bunt, Dillner got caught in a rundown. She got back to third base, and at the same time the throw to third went down the left field line and Dillner scored the winning run.
The team will now play Meredith College on Saturday morning at 10:00 am to decide who advances to the championship series against Pfeiffer next week.
