Sykes Grand Slam, Bast's Strong Start Lead Pride to Victory Over NC Wesleyan on Senior Day


Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Baseball team (23-17, 11-10) finished off the regular season with a win over NC Wesleyan in game three of the series, 5-4. The Pride lost the first two games of the series, with game one going the Bishops' way 19-17 and game two being won by NC Wesleyan 18-6.

Game one:

Game one of the double header on Saturday was tough as the Batting Bishops scored 15 runs in the first two innings. They put up 5 runs in the first frame and then 10 runs in the second. Michael Richards got the start on the mound for Greensboro, going 1.2 innings.

The offense did score 6 runs in the game. Kai Hayen drove home two in the first inning on a single, and later drew a bases loaded walk to bring home another run. Evan Sykes and Drake Carrick drove home a run each later in the game, and then Hayen brought home his fourth RBI on a double in the seventh inning.

Game Two:

Game two of the twin bill was much more exciting for the Pride fans in attendance, as they got to see Greensboro take home a win in the final regular season game of the year. Evan Sykes got the offense going by hitting a grand slam off the scoreboard in the first inning to put the Pride ahead 4-0.

Ian Bast got the start on the mound and pitched a great 5.0 innings. He gave up 5 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) and struck out 6 Bishops batters. Stephen Dunlow then came in for the final 4.0 innings. 

With the game tied 4-4, Greensboro took the lead in the eighth inning on an RBI bunt single by Alex Vazquez. In the ninth, Adam Weber started a 5-4-3 double play to end the game and seal the victory for the Pride.

Six of the eight hits for Greensboro came from Chris Le, Brody Gardner, and Vazquez. The offense also drew 6 walks.
