Buena Vista, VA - Greensboro Baseball (22-14, 10-7) took on Southern Virginia (12-17, 8-8) on Friday in a USA South double header. The Knights won game one 10-4, while the Pride took game two 11-9.
Game One:
Greensboro got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Cooper Ferguson drove home
Chris Le with a double followed later by a
Nick Marshall RBI single and an
Evan Sykes fielders choice.
The second inning was where the trouble began for the Pride as they gave up 5 runs in the frame. Southern Virginia then added to the lead with 2 runs in the fourth inning to make it 8-3.
Greensboro could only score one more run for the rest of the game. The team totaled 6 hits and 5 walks on the contest.
Game Two:
The offense exploded for 11 runs in game two and hung on for an 11-9 win. With the game tied 1-1 early on, the Pride scored 8 runs in the third inning to take a commanding lead. They scored 2 more runs in the 5th inning and had an 11-3 lead after five innings.
The Knights scored 2 more runs in the sixth, and then put up 4 runs in the ninth inning. With the tying run at the plate,
Dolan Ramsey got the final out to secure the victory.
Ian Bast started on the mound for Greensboro, going 5.0 innings and giving up 3 runs.
Nick Stegura threw 3.2 innings in relief.Â
The biggest performance in the lineup came from
Chris Le. Le went 4-6 with 1 double, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored.
Kai Hayen went 2-2 with a double and 2 RBI, while
Alex Vazquez went 2-4 with 2 runs scored.
The third and final game of the series is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 12:00 pm.
