Buena Vista, VA - In the rubber match of a three game series, Greensboro Baseball (24-17, 10-8) fell to Southern Virginia (13-17, 9-8) 16-7 on Saturday afternoon.
Greensboro's offense came to play as they scored 7 runs on 11 hits.
Kai Hayen led the team with 3 hits including a home run and 2 RBI.
Evan Sykes also hit a home run in the contest.
The Knights got out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning thanks in large part to a three-run homer by Marcelino Leonardo Jr. Greensboro cut the lead in half in the second inning, but SVU would come back with three more runs in the bottom of the second to make it 9-3.
Six more runs would score for the Knights, as their offense was too much for the Pride to overcome.
Michael Richards got the start on the mound for Greensboro, while
Aaron McInvale and
Stephen Dunlow came in from the bullpen to pitch the final seven innings.
Other offensive contributors included
Louis Berini, who went 2-4, and
Adam Weber, who went 2-5 with 2 RBI.
Greensboro will host the final series of the regular season this weekend when they host conference leading NC Wesleyan. Game one is set for Friday afternoon at 5:00 pm at Ted Leonard Park.
