High Point, NC - Greensboro Baseball swept Brevard College in a three game series over the weekend to move into a tie for second place in the USA South Conference standings.
Game One:
The Pride took game one 7-6 behind a strong pitching performance by
Hunter Anderson and a three hit performance by
Brody Gardner. With Brevard leading 4-3 in the fourth inning, Greensboro tied the game on an
Evan Sykes solo homer. They then took the lead in the fifth inning after a Gardner RBI triple and a
Kai Hayen RBI single.
The Pride took a 7-6 lead into the ninth, and
Stephen Dunlow came in to close the game out. With the bases loaded and one out, Dunlow struck out the final two batters to nail down the win. This was Dunlow's sixth save of the season.
At the plate,
Evan Sykes went 2-4 with 2 runs scored to go along with his home run.
Alex Vazquez went 2-3 with one RBI.
Game Two:
Game two of the series went the Pride's way by the score of 7-4. The Pride led 4-3 before Greensboro scored three runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away from the Tornados.
Michael Richards was the story in this one, as he pitched a complete game, giving up four runs on four hits. He also had three strikeouts.
Evan Sykes has another big game, going 3-4 with two runs scored.
Brody Gardner went 2-5, and
Alex Vazquez had 3 RBI. Sykes, Vazquez, and
Adam Weber all had one double on the game. Weber, Gardner, and
Cooper Ferguson had a stolen base.
Game Three:
Greensboro completed the sweep in game three as the offense scored thirteen runs. The big highlight was a three-run home run by
Nick Marshall that sailed over the batter's eye in centerfield, going well over 400 feet.
Ian Bast got the start on the mound and went five innings, giving up two hits and two runs (both unearned runs).
Nick Stegura went the final four innings to get his first save of the season.
Chris Le,
Cooper Ferguson,
Nick Marshall, and
Louis Berini all had two hits each. The team totaled eleven hits on the game. Marshall had four RBI and
Brody Gardner had three walks. With the win, Greensboro is now tied for second place in the USA South Conference standings.
The Pride will play again when they host a non-conference game against Roanoke College on Tuesday, April 16th at 4:00 at Ted Leonard Park.
