Williamsport, PA - The Greensboro Men's Wrestling team traveled to Pennsylvania to participate in the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Friday and Saturday. It was a successful day for the team, and
Josh Wilson took home his second straight regional title and second straight Most Outstanding Wrestler award at the regionals.
Wilson came into the regionals with a 26-3 record on the season. To begin the regionals, Wilson received a bye in the first round before defeating Hunter Ballantine from Shenandoah. Wilson then took down Skyler Hickman from Washington & Lee to advance to the semi-finals.
In the semi-final match, Wilson defeated Mark Samual from Roanoke by Decision to advance to the final round. In the championship round, Wilson found himself down 14-2 to Josiah Gehr before earning three points to make it 14-5. Wilson then pinned Gehr for an unforgettable finish to the match, and Wilson claimed his second straight regional crown.
Almost every Greensboro wrestler won at least one match during the tournament.
Quadir Medley wrestled in the 133 pound class and won his first round match.
Ethan Kring wrestled in the 157 pound class and also advanced to round two. Nicholas Menjivar (165),
Deven Ashley (174),
Khalil Belk (197), and
Amarion Wilson (285) all advanced to the second round in their respective weight class.
For Wilson, he will now wrestle for the National Championship in Lacrosse, Wisconsin March 15-16. Wilson finished eighth overall in last year's National Championships.
