Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Softball team (3-1) hosted Averett University (1-7) on Thursday afternoon at Barber Park. The Pride took game one 8-0 and game two by the score of 3-1.
Game One:
Game one was dominated by senior
Lauren Engel. Engel went all 5.0 innings and gave up just 2 hits on the day. She also struck out 5 Cougars batters. The offense exploded for 8 runs thanks to 3 hits and 3 RBI by
Alexis Sox.
Madison Dillner,
Kelsey Craven, and
Rigdon Lambeth all had 2 hits each.Â
Greensboro scored 6 of their runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 8-0. Lambeth bunted home a run to start the inning, and then
M'Kenzie Davis singled home
Ivy Ray.
Jillian Vitamanti drove home 2 runs on a single to right field followed by an
Alexis Sox RBI double. Craven drove in the final run of the inning on an RBI single.
Game Two:
The second game of the double header saw both pitchers shine as
Katherine Charlton went all 7.0 innings for Greensboro, and Kaci Stephenson for Averett went the distance as well. It was Charlton who would get the win, giving up 4 hits, 1 run, and striking out 1.
Down 1-0, the Pride tied the game on an RBI single by
Rigdon Lambeth. Then in the fifth inning, Greensboro took a 2-1 lead after
Anna Frazier tripled down the left field line. The final run came when
Carley Minter singled home
Ivy Ray to make it 3-1.
The Pride host Randolph College on Saturday at Barber Park. Game one begins at 1:00 PM.
