Greensboro, NC - It was an electric atmosphere inside Hanes Gymnasium as the Greensboro College Men's Basketball team (14-12, 9-5) defeated Pfeiffer University (10-14, 6-8), 75-63 on Thursday night to advance to the USA South Conference Championship game on Saturday. The Pride will travel to Mary Baldwin to play the regular season conference champions.
Not unlike other games for the Pride this season, the first half was a low scoring affair for both teams. The Falcons led 29-28 at halftime as the teams traded buckets throughout. Greensboro shot 45% from the floor in the half and went 5-8 from the free throw line.
The second half saw both teams ramp up the offense. The Pride scored 47 second half points to complete the come from behind victory.
Matthew Brown was a big part of this one, as he scored 17 points on 6-9 shooting. He also came down with 8 rebounds.
Javion Majette scored 14 points, while
Grant Thompson had 13. As a team, the Pride shot 61% from the floor in the second half.Â
The game also saw a career milestone for
Isaiah Pruett, who scored his 1,000th career collegiate point. Pruett scored 12 points on the night along with 7 assists.Â
Greensboro will play Mary Baldwin this Saturday in Staunton, VA for the USA South Tournament Championship. The winner will get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in March. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM. Watch the game live at greensborocollegesports.com.
