Staunton, VA - The Greensboro Men's Basketball team fell in the USA South Conference Championship game on Saturday to Mary Baldwin, 72-62. With the win, Mary Baldwin punches their ticket to the NCAA tournament in March.
Greensboro would keep the game close during the first half. The Fighting Squirrels had a 30-28 lead at halftime as the Pride kept the game low scoring. Mary Baldwin played outstanding defense themselves, as they forced multiple turnovers with their full court press.
In the second half,
Isaiah Pruett hit three three-point shots to keep Greensboro in the game. Unfortunately for the Pride, the Mary Baldwin's offense shot 11-28 from behind the arc, and the Greensboro offense couldn't overcome the great shooting display by the Squirrels.
Mary Baldwin led by as much as 14 points in the second half. As the game got closer to the end, the Pride cut the lead to single digits, but the championship MVP Luke Ogle scored big buckets to keep the Pride from coming back. Ogle scored 15 points on the game.
For Greensboro,
Tim Boulware scored a game high 19 points and made the all-tournament team. Pruett and
Matthew Brown also made the all-tournament team. Brown was named the USA South Player of the Year on Friday, becoming the first Greensboro men's basketball player to be named Player of the Year since 2014-2015.
The Pride finish the season 14-13, making the conference championship game for the first time since 2012-2013.Â
