Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Baseball team finished off a series sweep of Lycoming College on Sunday by the score of 7-1. This is the team's first opening weekend sweep since 2017.
The big story in this one was the Pride starting pitcher,
Michael Richards. Richards went 7.0 innings, gave up 5 hits, 1 run, and struck out 5. This was the longest outing ot Richards' career to date.
Right fielder
Drake Carrick got the scoring started with his first homer of the 2024 season in the third inning.
Kai Hayen later drove in two runs in the fourth inning to make the score 3-0. In the seventh inning,
Myles Vacharasin hit a sacrifice fly to give Greensboro a 4-1 lead.Â
Vacharasin drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth inning to make it 6-1, and then
Louis Berini drew a bases loaded walk to bring home the final run for the Pride.
For Greensboro,
Brody Gardner went 2-4 with a run scored and
Kai Hayen went 2-4 with 2 RBI.
Hunter Anderson came out of the bullpen and finished the game with 2.0 innings of shutout pitching. The Pride scored a total of 25 runs in the three game sweep of Lycoming College.
Greensboro goes on the road to Averett University on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
