Greensboro, NC - In what was the most exciting finish of the season, Greensboro Men's Basketball (13-12, 9-5) defeated Pfeiffer University (9-13, 6-8), 68-67. Senior
Matthew Brown capped of senior day by hitting a game winning jump shot with 0.4 seconds left to get the win and earn the #2 seed in the USA South Conference Tournament.
The game was back-and-forth throughout, as both teams fought hard and played solid defense. The Pride were led by
Javion Majette, who scored 17 points on 8-15 shooting.Â
Pfeiffer gained momentum as the second half went on, and were up by 7 points at five different times in the half. With 1:15 to play, Pfeiffer was ahead 66-59. Brown hit a three pointer with 33 seconds left to bring the deficit to 4 points.
Isaiah Pruett hit a layup with 20 seconds left to make the score 67-64.
The Pride then got a turnover and a quick basket by Majette. Then, Pfeiffer turned the ball over again on the ensuing inbound play, and Greensboro had a chance to win the game with one last shot. Brown was given the ball and hit a turnaround jumper on the baseline with 0.4 seconds left, which would be the game winning shot. The crowd went wild as the Pride defeated the Falcons and earned the #2 seed in next week's conference tournament.
Brown scored 13 points on the night with 5 rebounds. Pruett would score 12 points while dishing out 6 assists.
Griffin Powell played a big role, scoring 12 points on 4 three pointers.Â
On February 22nd, Greensboro will host the winner of the Pfeiffer vs NC Wesleyan game on Tuesday. Game time is TBD.Â
