Staunton, VA - It was a career night for
Matthew Brown as the Greensboro Men's Basketball team (12-12, 8-5) defeated the USA South regular season champions, Mary Baldwin (14-10, 10-3), for the second time this season 73-63. Brown tied a career high with 26 points while bringing down 12 rebounds, earning a double-double.
It was a back-and-forth affair early on as the Pride got out to an early lead, only to see Mary Baldwin take the lead midway through the first half. With 3:04 to play in half number one, Greensboro took the lead back, 29-28. The Pride would eventually take a 37-30 lead into the halftime break.Â
Greensboro held the lead for the entire second half and held off a late charge by the Fighting Squirrels to secure the win. Mary Baldwin would get to as close as one point of the Pride, but Greensboro then pulled away to as much as a 13 point advantage.Â
With 1:17 to play, the Fighting Squirrels were within 6 points, 67-61. Brown then hit a huge jump shot as time expired on the shot clock to spoil the momentum. Brown would hit four late free throws to finish off the victory.
Javion Majette and
Isaiah Pruett each scored 12 points, while
Grant Thompson scored 9 points. Greensboro hit 4 three pointers, including a key three point shot in the second half by freshman
