Rocky Mount, NC - The Greensboro Men's Basketball team (11-12, 7-5) took on NC Wesleyan (13-10, 7-5) on Saturday and got a much needed USA South Conference victory, 75-71. This is the first win for the Pride against NC Wesleyan since 2015.
Greensboro came in on a two game losing streak, including a heart breaker to Brevard last time out. They were able to break the skid on Saturday thanks in large part to the play of
Javion Majette. Majette scored 17 points while pulling down 5 rebounds. The win puts the Pride 4th place in the conference standings.
Greensboro led 33-31 at the half as both teams played each other tough. It remained the same in the second half, but the Pride were able to stretch their lead to 10 points midway through. The Battling Bishops cut the deficit to just 4 points with 5:35 to play, but Greensboro would quickly respond and not let them get any closer the rest of the game.
Matthew Brown scored 14 points on the afternoon while
Grant Thompson scored 13 and had 5 rebounds.
Isaiah Pruett had another solid outing scoring 8 points, dishing out 8 assists, and pulling down 6 rebounds.
Greensboro went 7-18 from behind the arc and shot 53% from the floor. They went 8-12 from the free throw line and the bench came through with 18 points.
The Pride will take on conference leading Mary Baldwin on the road February 14th. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM in Staunton, VA.
