Wilson Wins, Two Others Place, As Men's Wrestling Takes 8th In Petrofes Invitational

GRANTHAM, PA- Led by Josh Wilson's victory in the 141-weight class, the Greensboro Pride men's wrestling team concluded the Petrofes Invitational at Messiah University in eighth place out of 15 schools.

Wilson was impressive as usual, defeating all five of his opponents by technical fall in dominant fashion. He defeated Landen Pangborn (Messiah) 17-1, Danny Carrozza (Gettysburg) 22-6, Andrew Loniewski (Muhlenberg) 19-4, and Shaun Quirk (Messiah) 19-4 to reach the championship in the 141-weight class. Wilson notched his third consecutive championship at the Petrofes Invitational by dispatching Springfield College's Ryan Kozdra 23-7. In addition to his third straight championship in Grantham, Wilson has not lost since the finals of the season-opening Ithaca Invitational, a winning streak of seven matches.

Alongside Wilson, both Isaiah Manning and Jacob Barlow also placed, marking the first time Greensboro had ever placed three wrestlers in an event. Manning defeated Lycoming's James Ellis by medical forfeit in the 7th place match of the 197-weight class, while Barlow lost his opening match in the 285-pound class before reeling off seven consecutive wins, culminating in a third place victory over Shannon Clark of Misericordia.

For the Pride, it marked their next-to-last competition of the calendar year. And, in the eyes of head coach Justin Harty, it was a big step in the right direction, even if they're still not completely satisfied. "This Messiah Petrofes Tournament was a tough invitational with 15 teams and we wrestled extremely well here, placing eighth despite not bringing our full team…We are doing some things as a team really well, but still have some improvement areas. So we head back to the wrestling lab at Greensboro College to continue to improve and get better every day. Proud of everyone on our team!"

Greensboro now returns home to host Ferrum in their ODAC opener on December 18th.
