Raleigh, NC - The Greensboro women's basketball team traveled to take on William Peace in their second USA South Conference game of the season on Wednesday night and came away victorious in overtime 61-60.
The game was tight throughout, as the Pride led 17-10 after the first quarter and then 31-28 at the half. The offense was solid in half number one, shooting 14-32 from the field 2-3 from the free throw line.
After both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter, neither offense could get anything going in the fourth. However, the Pacers outscored Greensboro 9-6 in the period to force overtime. In overtime, the Pride took a 53-50 lead early on. They then had a 59-55 lead with 1:39 to play, but William Peace battled back to within one with 44 seconds to go.
Meah Brooks hit a big layup with 29 seconds left to extend the lead to 3 points, but later the Greensboro defense committed a foul that allowed the Pacers to pull back within 1 after two free throws. William Peace got one last possession to try and win the game, but a missed shot from close range didn't fall and the Pride took home their first conference win of the season.
Azuria Barrino scored a team high 17 points, just 2 points shy of tying her career high set last year. She had 9 rebounds and 1 steal to cap off her solid performance. Freshman
Meah Brooks had 15 points in the win with 5 rebounds. Fellow freshman
Nakiyah Kelly had 14 rebounds to go along with 8 points.
Greensboro will play again on December 17th inside Hanes Gymnasium when they host Brevard for another USA South Conference game. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
